What are people saying about the podcast?

Female Farmer Project shines a light on the many women who are shaping today’s global food system. Listeners can hear from those who are starting their new lives as first-generation farmers, growing indigenous grains in Zimbabwe, and working to dismantle racism in the U.S. Tune in for for a series celebrating the vast knowledge women hold.” - Food Tank’s 2021 Podcast List

”This podcast smashes through the farming glass ceiling (grass ceiling?) to discuss issues that women face within the agriculture space, from common problems such as cultivating soil health and marketing products to internal struggles such as making mental wellness a priority and balancing family obligations with work. Host Audra Mulkern speaks with guests from across the country, diving into their farms, their work, and the issues they face as women farmers.” - 7 Bingeworthy Food and Farming Podcasts, Modern Farmer

“…there’s something pure and honest about the way these stories are told. These are real girls and women working with the land, and you almost feel like you’re standing next to the hosts near a chicken coop or in a field of produce listening to the farmers discuss what they do and why they do it.” - Edible Idaho

Hunter College New York City Food Policy Center - 26 Podcasts for Summer 2021

“Writer and photographer Audra Mulkern started the project as a multi-platform documentary that chronicles female farmers globally. Since we love podcasts, we are thrilled the project includes one! It aims to serve as a platform for women to discuss agricultural issues and give power to their knowledge. In the most recent episode, Stacey Gose discusses her frustration with the lack of farm-appropriate clothing for women despite being the fastest-growing group of farmers. She is a former Iowa farm kid and founder of the women’s workwear brand TOUGHER. “Women have been getting it done before Rosie the Riveter came around,” said Gose. Amen!” - Center for Food Safety

"This podcast deserves binge listening." - Real Food Films

"Founded by Audra Mulkern, founder of “The Female Farmer Project”--a documentary project that chronicles the rise of women working in agriculture around the world--this podcast is a natural way to explore these themes. Each episode features in-depth interviews with female farmers, thus far covering topics ranging from traditional growing methods,  farming in arid environments, farm financing, and goat yoga. We recommend starting with Episode 1, which features San Xavier Co-op Farm in Arizona, a CNG farm on the Tohono O’odham Nation in Arizona." - Certified Naturally Grown

From iTunes:

My absolute favorite podcast! Each episode consists of such lovely conversation. Many of which are so incredibly relatable, and all of which are so crucial to be spoken out loud as female farmers work toward equity in this industry. I am grateful for these conversations as they help pass the time, while simultaneously educating, relating, and allowing me to reflect!”

“Love that this podcast exists to feature the many women who've been a part of agriculture all along but may not have been visible and the others who are just getting into the industry. We'll need everyone historically left out of positions of power in our food system to navigate the future, and this podcast is a great way to support those trying to make a more diverse and inclusive agricultural system a reality.”

"I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, so much that I’ve saved it to reference in the future. As an aspiring farmer part of the “returning generation”, I am always eager to soak up information from my elders. Thanks for this episode!”

"I'm loving this podcast so far. It's nice, as a female farmer, to hear other stories of different obstacles farmers face and how these women are finding their own unique solutions. I look forward to future episodes!

"A fun and interesting podcast for those interested in food production and the challenges of farming. As a male, I haven't found any "female focus" off-putting; it's been light. Subscribed!"

"Thanks for this...great conversation for understanding the obstacles and opportunities for women in farming."

"Love this podcast for its fresh perspective on farming and food in general. Very approachable and great chemistry!"

in collaboration with Columbian artist, Daniela of La Ramona created a piece that speaks to the stories of female farmers and farmworkers.
The objective of the collaboration is to invite women journalists who cover the different manifestations of gender violence, and bring them together with illustrators so that through dialogue the artist can create an illustrated piece that represents something about the woman/women the journalist writes about.
