Our Guest, Suzanne Cook AKA "WTFarm Girl"
It started 6 years ago when my boyfriend Erik and I decided to build a farm and had zero experience. Life was so crazy, I wrote a book on surviving the first year, but was told by book publishers that no one was interested in farming, so I started a YouTube channel documenting my experiences trying to run our family farm to see how much interest was actually there. After 2 years it grew to over 40,000 subscribers, farmers and non farmers alike who are inspired by my triumphs and fails, and encourage me onward in my farming journey. Erik works full time as an autobody painter while I stay home to take care of the kids and run the farm. Farming includes animal caretaking (chickens, horses, dogs, cats and cows) as well as all fieldwork such as tilling up new fields, mowing, tree cutting, hay cutting, raking and baling, and our entire maple syrup production from gathering the sap, to cooking and bottling it. Erik helps out with repairs on equipment and test runs any new implements we buy. Then the rest is up to me! Our youngest child is 6 and has his own flock of 9 chickens, and Erik's oldest is 21.
